Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14)
Jesus’ loving response toward the children was demonstrated when He took the time to physically pick them up and draw them to Himself. He gave each child value and significance. As teachers and volunteer staff it is our desire at Main Street Church to follow Jesus’ example in creating a nurturing environment and loving atmosphere where Biblical learning and understanding can take place and children have a quality learning experience. We provide an environment of support for each child and where parents feel confident leaving their children with staff. This ministry does not take over the God-ordained, parental responsibility; rather, we will strive to equip, support, and encourage parents in their vital role (Deuteronomy 6:6-7).
At Main Street Church we believe every word in the Bible is from God and is True. We don’t just teach the Bible, we use God’s Word to change lives of children, youth and adults! Children will hear God’s story in new, fun, and meaningful ways. They will begin to know God’s Word through hands-on experiences and learn the adventure of applying God’s truth in their everyday life resulting in a joy-fill lifetime relationship with Jesus Christ and discovering God’s plan for their life. “Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” John 17:3
Children learn best through activities. The objective of any Bible lesson is to effectively reach each child with the Good News of Jesus Christ. Children are multi-sensory learners and learn best by involving all their senses - sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. Eighty percent (80%) of retention takes place through hands-on activities. These hands-on activities may involve the children interacting with art materials, music, writing, drama, gross motor, or engaging other skills. Bible Learning Activities are designed to reinforce the Bible truths taught in the lesson. Making Bible truths a part of the child’s day-to-day understanding and behavior is the true test of learning. The model we use is a R-E-A-L approach…Relational, Experiential, Applicable, Learner based.
